Cozmic Mojo featuring Elizabeth Lee
da Jam | febbraio 2004-2005
by Fabio
Treves
Cozmic Mojo is a one-year-old project by two musicians from
Brescia, Luca Gallina and Beppe Facchetti and, on the
occasion, features the texan artist Elizabeth Lee. Gallina
is a guitarist that could play in one of the many blues-rock bands
from the US because he shows sensitivity and feeling together with
groove and innovation. the CD lists 11 tracks, all classics, and it's
a collage of blues, rock, fusion and psychedelic atmospheres, these
last so hip today. I rarely get emotioned lately but Gallina
and band, with the help of Elizabeth's voice and personality,
have totally shocked me. From a version of "Jumpin' Jack Flash",
ennobled by the amazing harp of Max Maccarinelli to the classic
by Mississipi Muddy Waters "I Got My Mojo Workin",
which you could hear as a jingle on some national radio program (take
my word for it), the sound and the arrangements could kill. Some Blues
classics are completely reinterpreted and served with sounds and rhythms
that remind of Vanilla Fudge, Black Crowes, Jeff
Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan. You realize you're listening
to Eddie Cochran "Summertime Blues" only when it's
over and there are some tributes to Chuck Berry and Rufus
Thomas. Bob Fenaroli, the bass player is a blastin rhythm
section together with the groovy drummer Beppe Facchetti. I'd
also like to list the other guests of this cool CD: Renato "Chuck
Ford" Castellini sings in 5 songs, Fulvio Sigurtà
on the trumpet and Lead Belly, voice and very special guest.
You could ask for it writing to: jeanlucg@libero.it
Why: trust me, it's worth working for something beautiful, notwithstanding
our "beloved" majors.
Elizabeth Lee & Cozmic Mojo
Live at Revenge Music Club | 15/01/2004-2005
by Blod
To the music lovers from Brescia, the name EL is no more a
surprise. Blues woman from Texas with a handful of good records in
her late years, E has become a pleasing innuendo of the live scene
in Brescia and province, either for the intense and frequent live
acts or for her newly opened music club (Storyville) which is bound
to become the crossroads for the ones who keep on loving the good
old rock'n'roll
Cozmic Mojo is nothing but three old cats from the scene in
Brescia. Luca "Gallo" Gallina on guitar(thank
Leo Fender for creating that raw jewel called Fender Telecaster),
the maestro Beppe "Beppone" Facchetti on heavy artillery
and Luca "Mane" Manenti on baritone guitar(thank
to St. Jon Spencer from NYC who allowed us to rediscover it)
three tough guys who, after zig-zagging - with a certain success -
through the meanders of the 90's wave music scene, have decided to
take a restorin bath in the muddy waters of the sacred Mississippi.
Now they are covered with mud... just as if their skin was black.
But, the thing is that we're not talkin about straight old blues,
here they revisit Robert Johnson or Chuck Berry with
the burning language of Jon Spenser(him again) but without his noisy
nihilism and punk eccesses and enriched by a protagonist guitar, splendidly
over the lines. To cut it short, Ass Kickin Blues.
The band has a totally cool sound and a relevant technique but, mostly,
knows how to rock and entertain without compromising or trying to
please everybody.
If existence was a chess board, these four knights would make the
most austere of queens shake her ass. Long live! |
